Now Tasting

09.10.12

One of the pleasures of tasting wine at Far Niente, aside from sitting down at a table in the rustic ambience of the historic stone building, is experiencing wines from both the current release and Cave Collection. The cellar-aged wines in our Cave Collection are a delicious representation of how Far Niente Cabernets and Chardonnays evolve over time, while the current releases depict vitality to be enjoyed now or to save for later.

Here are the wines we’re currently pouring for our guests*:

2008 Far Niente Cave Collection Chardonnay

Aromas of ripe melon, fig and peach greet and lead to a creamy and smooth entry. A rich midpalate is layered with ripe tropical fruit and toasted hazelnuts. The finish is long and mouthwatering with well-integrated toast and spice.

2010 Far Niente Estate Bottled Chardonnay

Aromas of Meyer lemon, toasted nuts and fig are supported by the underlying sweetness of honeysuckle. The entry is honeyed with ripe citrus, light melon, well-integrated nuttiness and a touch of mineral. A rich, full midpalate with balanced acidity draws out into a long finish.

2000 Far Niente Cave Collection Cabernet Sauvignon

The wine offers classic bottle bouquet aromas of bright raspberries, dried tobacco and briar. Silky on entry, the layered aromas are echoed in the juicy mid-palate, mingling with dark cherry and mellowed oak. These flavors meld into a satisfying finish.

2009 Far Niente Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of boysenberry and blackberry pie, tobacco leaf, cassis and toasted oak give way to an entry of black cherry fruit supported by warm, spiced oak. Thick and structured, the wine lingers on the palate with flavors of boysenberry, cherry and spice. The wine’s big, firm tannins are hallmarks of great aging potential.

2006 Dolce

A stunning treat from our sister winery, Dolce, this wine is intensely fruity, driven by aromas of citrus and stone fruits, and layered with notes of honey and spice. Ripe peach and pear dominate in the nose and are complemented with notes of orange zest, dried apricot and fig. The palate is loaded with ripe and juicy apricot. It begins with a silky entry, followed by an unctuous and balanced midpalate, and a mouthwatering, clean finish.

The harvest season is a popular time to visit and our appointments can fill up a month or more in advance. Please give us a call as soon as you make your travel arrangements—we would love to see you and share our wines with you!

The Keys to Far Niente's Cave Collection: Crafting Age-Worthy Cabernet

In anticipation of our annual Cave Collection release, we sat down with Winemaker Nicole Marchesi to talk about Far Niente's Cave Collection and the keys to making age-worthy Napa Valley Cabernet. Read on to hear what she has to say. Then mark your calendars for the January 17 release from Far Niente's Cave Collection.
